The Two-Hour Window Inside Aledo's Christmas Tyme

What time does Vellichor Bookshop close on Saturday, December 5? Its posted Saturday hours end at 4 p.m. That's one hour after Christmas Tyme in Aledo opens on Historic Front Street. The City lists the event for Saturday, December 5, 2026, from 3 to 8 p.m.

The market opens just as Front Street's shops begin closing. Christmas Tyme is built as an evening event, and the shops along Front Street keep daytime hours. Neighboring towns have also filled the hours around it. Hudson Oaks lights its tree the night before, and Weatherford runs a full day on its square and then a parade at 6:30. The weekend works best if you plan it in order, and the one part you can't move is the window from 3 to 5 p.m. in downtown Aledo.

What the City has confirmed so far

The City's event page says Historic Front Street "will transform into a festive open-air holiday market" with activities throughout downtown. It lists shopping, food, Santa photos, letters to the North Pole, a tree lighting ceremony, and a holiday drone show. The event is free, and you don't need a ticket or registration. The City says the full schedule will come closer to the date. As of mid-October, no times have been posted for the tree lighting or the drone show.

Christmas Tyme is one of the City's signature annual events. It's always held on the first Saturday in December and paid for through the Aledo Economic Development Corporation. Because it starts at 3 p.m. and runs past dark, the tree lighting and drone show fall in the evening. Those are the parts of the day the event is built around.

Front Street's own clock

Christmas Tyme isn't the only shopping downtown that day. The vendor market sets up outside along Front Street, and there's a group of independent shops on the same blocks. Here are their regular posted Saturday hours, taken from each business's own site or from local coverage:

Business Address What it is Posted Saturday hours
Vellichor Bookshop 108 S FM 1187 Independent bookstore 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
EmmaCate Boutique 241 N. Front St., Suite 100 Clothing and gifts 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Hello by Lauren 209 N. Front St. Women's boutique 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Two Sisters Teahouse 209 N. Front St. Tea, florals, gifts, fashion 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Byrd Mill 241 N. Front St., #300 Gift shop with local vendor products Not posted in our source
Press Café 109 S. Front St. American café and restaurant 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Dayne's Craft BBQ 100 S. Front St. Barbecue Not posted in our source

These are the stores' regular hours, and any of them could stay open later for the event. Based on what's posted today, though, four of the five shops with listed hours close by 5 p.m. That leaves about two hours of overlap between Christmas Tyme and the shops. Vellichor's overlap is one hour.

Two of these shops are newer to downtown. Community News reported in late May that Byrd Mill had moved from Willow Park to 241 N. Front St. In the same week, the paper reported that Vellichor's co-founders, Meghan Schroeder and Cori Moore, planned to open this summer at 108 FM 1187. The bookshop's website now lists weekly store hours. That means this will likely be the first Christmas Tyme for both shops at their Front Street-area addresses.

Food is easier. Press Café is the one business on the list with posted hours that run past the end of the event. It's open until 10 p.m. on Saturdays, and weekend brunch runs until 3 p.m. If you have dinner there after the drone show, you won't be fighting the clock. Brunch there before the market opens also works.

Friday night takes Hudson Oaks off Saturday's list

Next door, the City of Hudson Oaks has an event page that lists its annual tree lighting for Friday, December 4, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Gene L. Voyles Park. The lighting countdown is at 6 p.m. The page also lists local performers, free photos with Santa, a free hot cocoa station, food trucks, bounce houses, a train ride, and a Santa's Workshop featuring local businesses and organizations.

The Corridor of Lights at Gene L. Voyles Park opens the next night, Saturday, December 5. It runs 6 to 9 p.m. every night through New Year's Day. The display has more than 75,000 lights synced to music and is free. On Monday nights the lights stay on without flashing as Sensory Friendly Nights. Horse-drawn carriage rides through the Corridor are listed for December 11, 12, 17, 18, and 19, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. They cost $7 per person, are paid by cash, Venmo, Zelle, or Cash App, and depend on the weather. The page doesn't print a year for any of these dates, including the tree lighting and the Corridor's opening. The weekdays match the 2026 calendar, but the City of Hudson Oaks hasn't confirmed the year, so recheck the page as December gets closer.

The Corridor runs nightly for about four weeks, so it's the easiest event of the weekend to move. Its opening night falls on the same Saturday evening as the Aledo tree lighting and the Weatherford parade, and you can see the same lights on any night that's less crowded. If your household wants a tree lighting with a countdown, Friday night in Hudson Oaks is a separate event from Saturday in Aledo.

Saturday has two downtowns on two schedules

Christmas on the Square runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. that same Saturday in Historic Downtown Weatherford. The Weatherford Chamber of Commerce lists local shopping, food, entertainment, family activities, Santa, and a gingerbread contest.

Aledo's event starts at 3 p.m., one hour before Weatherford's daytime event ends. That makes for a workable Saturday:

  1. Late morning or midday: Christmas on the Square in Weatherford, which runs until 4 p.m.
  2. 3 p.m. to about 5 p.m.: Downtown Aledo while the vendor market and most of the Front Street shops are open. Start with Vellichor, since it closes at 4.
  3. After 5 p.m.: The outdoor market and evening program on Front Street, with dinner at Press Café as an option.

The hard decision comes at 6:30. That's when Weatherford's lighted parade leaves the Ninth Grade Center and takes the long route to Waco Street, with lighted floats and vehicles, the Roo Marching Band, the Blue Belles, and Santa. Christmas Tyme runs until 8 p.m. in Aledo, and its tree lighting and drone show will likely be in that same evening stretch. If you plan to be on Front Street after dark, you'll probably miss the parade. If you want the parade, plan to leave Aledo early. The City's schedule, when it comes out, will show exactly how much the two events overlap.

What's still unannounced, and the dates that come before it

Several details will settle over the next few weeks:

  • Vendor applications close November 1. The City charges $50 for a 10-by-10 craft or merchandise booth and gives priority to Aledo residents and businesses. As of now, food vendor applications are still listed as "Coming Soon." The final mix of vendors on Front Street will depend on who applies by that deadline.
  • Business participation is open. The City's sponsors and partners page invites local businesses and nonprofits to take part through activities, giveaways, or sponsorships. No list of participants has been published yet.
  • The Veterans Day ceremony comes first. The City holds an annual ceremony at Veterans Plaza, which its parks page lists at 312 Aledo Trail. The Aledo Ledger's calendar lists it as expected on Wednesday, November 11, with the time still to be announced.
  • A neighborhood market in mid-November. The Morningstar Fall Festival is listed for Saturday, November 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 128 Heatherwind Lane in Aledo. The listing promises carnival rides, a petting zoo, music, food trucks, and local vendors. It's free.

Once the City posts the full Christmas Tyme schedule, the main open question for December 5 is answered: whether the tree lighting and drone show start before Weatherford's parade at 6:30 or after it. The rest of the weekend's timing is already set. Hudson Oaks lights its tree Friday. Weatherford's square is open until 4. In Aledo, the outdoor market and most of the Front Street shops overlap from 3 until about 5, and Vellichor closes at 4.
